Some fleet managers have decided against using the technology available in fleet tracking systems. They have several reasons why they don’t want the vehicle tracking systems on their commercial vehicles, cars, vans, and other fleets. Part of the reasons many have named is that the technology is not worth the cost of the systems.

New Law Being Passed Requiring Fleets to Change

There are more fleet companies with commercial vehicles who are unaware of the new act than the government would like to see. A new act coming in April 2009 is for a Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide law. Firms can now be prosecuted for manslaughter if negligence of the driver can be proved. In other words, if the driver causes death of another or if the fleet trucks cause death because of negligence on maintenance the firms can be held accountable.

Fleets and Cutting Fuel Costs

Fuel costs this year have sky rocketed because of the high oil prices. To help companies lower their fuel costs, there are some devices like vehicle tracking systems. By being able to track the driver routes more aggressively it will be easier to get the fuel costs down.
