Ted White of White Tyres Direct said that he has noticed that deliveries are done considerably quicker since the introduction of tracking on all his vehicles. Ted said the following.
It was not a cheap investment, but one that has been worth it’s wait in gold. We have now been able to increase the number of deliveries without increasing the number of vehicles on the road. This has saved me thousands of pounds, probably if I worked it out tens of thousands of pounds.
You see less vehicles on the road does not just save you money on the vehicles themselves, but also on the staff required to drive them.
Plus by increasing the efficiency of the whole delivery process we have reduced the number of complaints as deliveries are much more likely to go to the correct addresses and get there on time.
The reason is you can keep track of what your fleet is doing at all times. Therefore if the dispatch manager sees a driver going to the wrong location or a driver needs help finding somewhere they can more easily help them. But the main advantage is the fact that delivery drivers cannot skive off. I never realized the extent of this problem until a friend pointed out that he had seen one of my vans parked down a country lane most days between a certain time. After looking into this it turned out that this was common place for many drivers to park up for a little skive. A snooze, a special cigarette or just to have a read of the paper.
This has now been stopped due to vehicle tracking. There are other advantages, but this is the one that has most impressed me.
