Which Vehicle Tracking System Should You Trust

There are two very excellent reasons why you might want to have a vehicle tracking system on your car. The first reason is thieves; by having a tracking system on your vehicle it is sometimes easier to get it back. It seems car thieves are getting more plentiful now, especially with the credit crunch when people are strapped for cash. It can be frustrating, costly, and time consuming to have to replace a vehicle when it gets stolen. The second reason to have a vehicle tracking system is insurance. Your insurance premiums will be less just for having the vehicle tracking system on your vehicle. However, with the many vehicle tracking systems on the market, which ones can you trust?

There are two types of tracking systems. You have the vehicle tracking system with GPS and the other with Radio Frequency. Each type of vehicle tracking system has been tested for its technology and found to be very useful. In fact car manufacturers have been known to use both types of vehicle tracking systems. Even the insurance companies approve of both types of vehicle tracking systems. There has been a claim that GPS is not as reliable as the radio frequency. The reason for this is that thieves are using devices that can actually jam the GPS signal. If the thieves use this technology it will be more difficult to track the car.

The report of thieves using GPS is mostly just a claim. Trafficmaster’s Trackstar, a leading UK company for tracking stolen vehicles has not come upon any GPS blocked signal, and found no evidence of systems being used.

According to their company the GPS system is more reliable than the radio frequency systems. The radio frequency signal can only be picked up on special Police vehicles and they have to be within 5 to 10 miles of the vehicle. The GPS system gives a larger net. Also the radio frequency like the GPS system can be jammed or intercepted with the right technology.

It is a difficult question on who to trust regarding your vehicle tracking system, but one must consider that typically there will always be a way to circumvent technology. As manufacturers come up with ways to protect a vehicle, the thieves and fraudsters will work on a way to get around it. Then they will use a cost effective method.

Luckily most thieves don’t work this hard. A typical car thief is one that looks for an opportunity like keys in the ignition and a door left open. This easy method means they usually get away without being caught at least until the vehicle tracking system is logged into and the car is tracked down.

Before choosing a vehicle tracking system for your car it is best to research all the different systems and talk with several manufacturers to get your questions answered. This way you can feel comfortable that you do have the best system on your vehicle to protect it against thieves.
